NAME Day 2020

NAME DAY ON Mini Cyber Club (MCC), PLEASE JOIN US (click to read more)

With the unfortunate damper on all things in person these days, NAME Day events are not able to happen in many or most areas.  So Mini Cyber Club (an official NAME club) is planning an all day event on ZOOM so that we can at least meet face to face online which seems to be our new way of gathering to share our love of all things miniature.

We invite all NAME members to join us whether you are a member of Mini Cyber Club or not.  If you register, you will receive the login information and any other information available to registrants.  See the schedule below.  There is no cost, we will tempt you with food thoughts, recipes and talk but you are on your own to actually provide those food items that will help you sustain yourself through the day.  Chocolate is highly recommended for firm, attention-enhancing, steady hands for all miniature creativity.

On Saturday, October 3rd, Official NAME Day this year, we will start off with a session of: demos, tips and tricks and question answering for the 1:12 and 1:24 (1” & ½”) scale NAME Day project for this year.  The instructions and parts for those two scales are more or less the same.

10:00 AM to 12:00 noon (PDT), 1:00 to 3:00 PM (EDT).

12:00 to 3:00 PM (PDT), 3:00 to 5:00 (EDT), we will demo the Reverse Painting Technique to make the top to your counter and Luci will demo how you can light your area.

3:00 PM to 5:00 PM (PDT), 5:00 to 7:00 (EDT), will be a time for Surprises, Prizes, Games and Chat. After that period, those who choose to continue to work and chat can go til sunrise if needed but will not have instruction after hours.  You can help each other however, just like we do in clubs all over.

For you Quarter Scalers, we are not providing instruction and demos until Saturday, October 24th, 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon (PDT), 1:00 to 3:00 PM (EDT)  So many of you Quarter Scalers are participating in the Quarter Connection NAME Day that we thought you should at least start your kit there and we will be there to help you with questions and finishing the week afterwards.  And those who will be doing the quarter scale on your own, we will be there to help from start to finish if needed or at least for 2 hours.  Quarter Scalers will want to join us on October 3rd however, for the Reverse Painting Technique, the Lighting and the Games and Chat portions.

Please be sure you have ordered your kits. We hope you’ve already done so but if not, there are some cutters who can still take orders so you will have to ask them if they can accommodate you.  The Cutter List is on the NAME website under Events then NAME Day, on the MCC io group and on the NAME Online group under Files.  Registration Form is also on the NAME website, MCC and NAME Online under Files/ NAME Day.

NAME Day 2020

This year NAME Day will officially be on the first Saturday of October, October 3rd in 2020.  Of course. we know that not all areas can celebrate NAME Day on that exact date due to regional activities and events that occur.  However, the idea of NAME Day is to celebrate it along with other miniaturists around the world on the same day so we hope most of you will be able to do so on October 3rd.  It’s a unifying feeling to know there are others all over who are doing the same thing on the same day.

So, while you are waiting for the actual photograph of the new project, please read the NAME Day Guidelines found in this issue of the Gazette or look at the NAME website for the information and forms.

THE CRAFT ROOM, Part II (and final part for the Craft Room)

We have our Craft Table and we’ve decided the theme for the room.  Maybe it’s Minis, maybe Sewing, Scrapbooking, Button Collecting, Painting or whatever you have decided.  Now what else for the Craft Room?  Of course, we need water, storage, and a place for all of our equipment and supplies.  So, what better than a Cabinet with a Sink and some storage space?  We don’t have an actual photo yet, but we do have a rough drawing to start with and we have a spectacular 3D printed sink with faucet and handles to fit into the countertop.

We will need Cutters, Events, and information of who to contact:

To be on the Cutter List to be printed Online and in the Gazette, contact Barbara Thornton-Hill for a Cutter Registration Form:   530-265-5704,

To register an Event and get a free one-inch Kit, contact Ann Pennypacker for an Event Registration form:   610-496-938,

(the Free Kits will not be available until after April 15th.)

The purpose of NAME Day is to unite and involve all NAME members by doing the same project on the same day at different locations throughout the US and internationally. Participation in an event may occur in clubs, locally, statewide, regionally, or online. Information will be in the NAME Miniature Gazette to encourage all NAME members’ participation.

Dates:  As a way to kick off International Dollhouse and Miniatures Month, NAME Day will always be on the first Saturday of October each year.  This year it will be on Saturday, October 3, 2020. Expanded events (or areas with conflicting dates) should occur as close to this date as is reasonably possible.

Project:  All events will center on the theme started last year which is ”The Dream Craft Room”, ending with the “Sink and Storage Unit”.   Plans for the Unit will be provided in 1”, ½” and ¼” scale as soon as they are available.  Some cutters will produce kits for 1/144” scale.  Cutters are encouraged to develop accessories to go on or in the storage areas of the Craft Room.

1. This event is for NAME members and NAME clubs only. Non-NAME members should be encouraged and invited to join NAME so they can participate in this event. All efforts should be made to include ALL NAME members in an area. Events could be held locally, statewide, regionally, or online. Clubs might get together with other clubs; smaller groups of individuals in remote areas could meet in someone’s home. Whatever the size of the event, the goal should be to welcome and invite all members. Event sponsors are encouraged to work with their State Representatives and Regional Coordinators to connect with members in their area and for support/assistance in planning their event.

2. Local event committees will determine their theme, accessories, length of the event (one day, mini weekend, etc.), and costs.

3. Insurance is available through the NAME office for events sponsored by a NAME Club and held in public locationsin both the US and Canada. The form is available online.  Insurance requests must be filed with the NAME office by August 1, 2020.

4. We encourage participation from NAME shop owners and members. If a shop/shop owner is a NAME member, he/she may sponsor a NAME Day event BUT participation is limited to NAME members only.

5. Fees are to be set locally with all efforts made to keep costs low and reasonable. Because NAME is a nonprofit organization, any profit from your event must be used for educational or charitable purposes. Please also remember that we are a part of a national organization and it would be nice if you could find a way to make a financial donation to NAME and specify for the NAME Day fund. This fund is what supports the free kits event planners can receive and we are always running low on this fund.  You could add a few dollars onto your registration fee, plan some type of a fundraiser for NAME such as selling tickets for donated “helper” prizes, or donate a portion of your event profit to NAME. This is not a requirement, but any donations are always appreciated, and future availability of free sample kits is dependent on these funds.

6. This year, we will be able to supply, again, the free kits in 1” scale ONLY.  They will be available to event planners who register for NAME Day.  We will continue to take this one year at a time so it is possible free kits may not be available at all in the future.  Please contact the cutter of your choice to obtain other scale kits.  Please contact the cutter of your choice to purchase early kits for your planning team.

7.  To register your event, please contact Ann Pennypacker, 2020 NAME Day Event Coordinator at:  610-496-938,

There is an Event Application Form, found online or you can obtain it from Ann.

8. In order to have your event listed in the July/August NAME Miniature Gazette your event must be registered with Ann Pennypacker, by April 1, 2020. Once your information is received, it will be listed on the NAME website in a timely manner.

9. This event is to be a “Sink & Storage Unit” for the “Dream Craft Room”. Individual event sponsors will determine themes for their events.

10. Kit Cutters Needed:   If you are interested in being on the NAME list of cutters, please contact:

        Barbara Thornton-Hill,, 530-265-5704.

She will send you a form for the application and information to be listed.

11. Kit cutters, Regional Teams, and event planners may not sell the NAME Day kits as fundraisers after the event. This is a two-year project, special for the 2019-2020 NAME Days, and is much like a souvenir at a Houseparty or Convention. Since this is a special event, we ask that the kits not be manufactured after October 12, 2020.  Kits that are left over may be sold to NAME members only.  (Kits donated at a later time to regions or NAME such as in an estate donation or down-sizing donation are exempt from this rule)

12. Event sponsors are asked to place their orders with the kit cutter of their choice as soon as possible to allow sufficient time for the production of kits. To ensure delivery in time for your event, the cutoff date for ordering kits is August 16, 2020. Shipping dates for the continental United States will begin September 3, 2020. Shipping dates for Alaska, Hawaii and internationally will be mutually determined between the event sponsor and kit cutter.

13. Following your event, please send photos and event highlights to:

Barbara Thornton-Hill at and/or

Cindy Erickson, Gazette Editor at

so they may be shared online and in the NAME Miniature Gazette
